Sanctuary Coffee and Quilts

Opening in January of 2020 in a historic c.1925 church building fully renovated by the owners, this unique little gathering place has everything you might find in an urban coffee shop and more. From the moment you step over the Italian tile entry through gorgeous wooden doors onto the polished concrete floors, you know you are about to have an “experience.” The barista behind the counter offers a welcoming smile along with an assortment of coffee and tea made with a machine built in Italy and shipped over. Espresso, cappuccino, latte, mocha, chai tea, hot tea, trinity, affogto as well as extra shots and ice cream! It is heaven, and the ambiance is elegant, but casual.

Internet is available for study groups, books clubs, and just groups of friends.

If coffee is not your passion, then perhaps quilts will bring you to The Sanctuary. Nita Bechtel, owner, is a quilting guru who has set up a room for classes with fabrics and sewing machines, and in February will be adding a top-of-the-line Innova quilting machine. People may pay a rental fee or may use the machine free of charge with required purchases.

Future plans include a venue for weddings and other events in the sanctuary on the second level, where stained glass windows give a glow that has welcomed and inspired churchgoers for almost 100 years. Entrepreneurship is alive and well in Richland!
